Delta Delta Delta was founded by Sara Ida Shaw and Eleanor Dorcus Pond on Thanksgiving Eve 1888 at Boston University. At a time when women were not yet permitted to vote, few worked, and their male classmates in academic institutions did not welcome them, our brave founders felt the need to start a ladies society full of strength and character, one that thought "more of a girl's inner self and character than of her personal appearance." That very same day they wrote the rituals, constitution, and designed the emblems. Never before had a sorority been founded so completely and with such depth of meaning from the very beginning.
The purpose of Delta Delta Delta shall be: to establish a perpetual bond of friendship among its members, to develop a stronger and more womanly character, to broaden the moral and intellectual life, and to assist its members in every possible way. Since the eve of Thanksgiving in 1888, when Sarah Ida Shaw and Eleanor Dorcas Pond bravely founded Delta Delta Delta, this purpose along with our Motto, "Let Us Steadfastly Love One Another" has served to guide all that we as Tri Deltas strive to do within our chapters, communities, campuses and our everyday life.
Today Tri Delta is nationally recognized as one of the strongest collegiate sororities with over 210,000 initiated members. Delta Delta Delta is rich in tradition and symbolism passed down from our founders. These rich traditions are still very much alive today in our chapter here at West Georgia, and we are proun to call Tri Delta our home away from home.
Our Symbols
The Pearl, Pine and Pansy
These symbols were chosen to represent the three stages of growth and development in Tri Delta.

 The pine tree is a symbol of Tri Delta's collegiate members because it represents growth and lofty aspirations. |

 The dolphin was considered a good omen by the ancient Greeks. It symbolized rebirth, friendship and leadership. In Tri Delta the dolphin is symbolic of clear skies and smooth sailing and has special significance for Fraternity leaders. |
 The patron Greek divinity of Tri Delta is Poseidon, god of the sea and one of the three rulers of the universe. |
 Tri Delta's colors are silver, gold and cerulean blue. Green is also significant for Tri Delta as it represents the union of the three colors. |
Beta Iota History
In the spring of 1970, West Georgia College administrators invited NPC sororities to nationally affiliate with the local sororities that were present on campus at the time. The oldest of the local sororities, Phi Sigma Delta, which was founded in 1967, became the Beta Iota Chapter of Delta Delta Delta.
Eighty-one ladies participated in formal pledging, which began in December 1970 for the newly established Tri Delta Chapter. The first Tri Delta initiation at the University of West Georgia took place on April 17, 1971 at the Presbyterian Church followed by a reception at Sunset Hills. Thirty-nine years later this date is celebrated as our chapter's birthday.
In the Fall of 2009, Tri Delta moved into our new home in the UWG Greek Village. The new house will provide home to a whole new generation of Tri Delta sisterhood at UWG. Tri Delta is more than four years of college with your sisters. It is a lifetime of sisterhood, friendship, and love that can never be replaced or forgotten.
